2024 H-1B Market Analysis

The year 2024 marked a period of stabilization in the H-1B program following the volatility of previous years. The technology sector's hiring recovered from 2023's correction, with artificial intelligence and machine learning roles seeing particularly strong demand. Companies across all industries increased their AI-related H-1B filings, reflecting the transformative impact of generative AI on business operations.

H-1B salary levels in 2024 reflected the growing premium placed on AI and data science expertise. Machine Learning Engineers and AI Researchers commanded some of the highest salaries in the program's history, with top companies offering base salaries exceeding $200,000 for senior positions. The concentration of AI talent demand in California, Washington, and New York continued to drive geographic salary disparities.

New prevailing wage rules implemented by the DOL increased minimum salary thresholds for H-1B positions, particularly at lower wage levels. This change had a significant impact on IT services companies that had historically filed at Level 1 wages, pushing average salaries higher across the board and reducing wage disparities between IT services and product companies.
